Celebration is Also a Show of Strength
Celebration is Also a Show of Strength

On January 21, over 100 members of our Mazzoni Center family joined a capacity crowd at the Wells Fargo Center for the Philadelphia Flyers annual Pride Night.
While many of our Philadelphia sports franchises have an annual Pride game, the Philadelphia Flyers have truly set the standard, going beyond a single game to demonstrate year-round support to our LGBTQ community, from inviting members of the Mazzoni Center Education Department to provide LGBTQ competency training to frontline staff to inviting young queer athletes for special meet-and-greets led by Flyers player and Mazzoni Center supporter, Scott Laughton.
This year’s Flyers Pride Night included the addition of a mini-Pridefest on the concourse prior to the game featuring local LGBTQ organizations and vendors, followed by pre-game activities that included Gritty, with all of his positive chaos, planting a rainbow flag at center ice.
As with every Flyers game, the national anthem was sung by Lauren Hart, who is a proud member of the Mazzoni Center Board of Directors.
Perhaps most importantly, right before the game, Flyers Charities announced on social media their continued grant funding of Mazzoni Center’s high resolution anoscopy program, launched with the Flyers’ support in 2024, to provide for screening, detection, and abatement of anal cancer as an in-house procedure at Mazzoni Center.
Together with generous support from TD Charitable Foundation, Flyers Charities continues to help save lives in our greater Philadelphia LGBTQ community through their underwriting of our anoscopy program. It’s been an absolute game-changer.
Flyers Charities generates much of their own support through their annual Flyers Charities Carnival, which will be held at the Wells Fargo Center this year on Sunday, February 23.
Many members of the Mazzoni Center family will be attending, and we invite you to join us to acknowledge and support the Flyers’ efforts. You can find more information by clicking here.
And, while the Flyers won their Pride Night game in overtime in thrilling fashion, Flyers orange isn’t the only color in our rainbow, as this week Eagles green represents the pride and determination of our beautiful city. We hope that an Eagles Super Bowl victory will be just one more reason for celebration.
Go Birds! Go Flyers! Go Mazzoni Center!
