Open Bar III event to honor Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown
On Tuesday, March 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Mazzoni Center will present the third annual Open Bar event, raising funds and awareness about the agency's Legal Services for low-income LGBT individuals in Pennsylvania.
We’ll be hosted by Opa (1311 Sansom Street), a Mediterranean restaurant/lounge that was recently named one of the “10 Hottest Restaurants in Philadelphia” by Zagat’s Philadelphia.
This year we have the privilege of presenting the Honorable Blondell Reynolds Brown, Councilwoman At-Large, with the Mazzoni Center Justice in Action Award in recognition for her dedication and commitment to LGBT communities in Philadelphia. Councilwoman Brown has been a consistent advocate for LGBT rights – opposing SEPTA’s use of gender marker stickers, co-sponsoring a resolution for City Council to hold hearings on increasing anti-bullying policies in Philadelphia schools, and becoming the first elected official in the city to film an “It Gets Better Video” in 2010. Most recently she sponsored and gained passage of the Equal Benefits Bill that requires contractors working with the City of Philadelphia to extend the same employment benefits to life partners of its employees that they extend to spouses of married employees.
Open Bar III is generously underwritten by Opa, with promotional support from: Gay and Lesbian Lawyers of Philadelphia (GALLOP), Lambda Legal, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Philadelphia Bar Association.
