Medical Care

Mazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine, 809 Locust StreetMazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine at 809 Locust Street offers compassionate, comprehensive primary health care services focusing on the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.  With our own caring, professional staff, and through our partnership with Thomas Jefferson University’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, we are able to meet the growing health care demands of Philadelphia’s LGBT communities.

Web-based Patient Portal

Mazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine now has a Patient Web Portal, which means easier access and greater convenience for our patients. 

Through the new system patients can create an online account that lets them request appointments, referrals, and prescriptions, and access test results and medical records 24 hours a day via a secure email connection.

Operating hours for the health center:

Monday and Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Wednesday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*youth drop-in hours for individuals aged 14-24, Wednesdays 5 to 7 p.m.

(closed for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. daily)

** At this time there is an approximately three-month wait for new patient visits, as we are experiencing an increased patient load, and one of our full-time providers is out on maternity leave.

(Please note: if you are newly diagnosed with HIV, or have a medical issue relating to pregnancy, reproductive health, or a sexually transmitted infection, you should contact us to arrange for an ‘urgent’ appointment).

We will be adding more providers to our staff in summer 2013, and hope to reduce the wait time accordingly.  We thank you for your patience, and look forward to serving you!

Current patients can continue to access their records and communicate with our staff via the patient portal. 

Payment & Insurance

The Mazzoni Health Center accepts most major insurers.  For patients with medical assistance, we do NOT accept Health Partners but do accept both Americhoice and Keystone Mercy.  Non-insured clients pay a sliding-scale fee for services based on their annual income and number of people supported on that income.  Please call the office at 215-563-0658 for more information.

Program Services

Family Medicine

We offer comprehensive primary health care in an environment conducive to the discussion of LGBTQ health issues. These services include routine health care, preventive health services, gynecology, sexual health services and chronic disease management. As a family medicine practice, we see children and adults of all ages, and especially welcome families. When appropriate, we can refer patients to other Mazzoni Center resources such as mental health programs, smoking cessation classes, and complementary therapies.

Family Planning

Mazzoni Center has partnered with the Family Planning Council to offer reproductive health and family planning services. These services include routine GYN care, contraceptive management, and sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment.

HIV/AIDS Services

For HIV infected individuals we offer both primary and specialized HIV care. Our clinicians are certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine and have special interest in the treatment of HIV. Services include routine physicals, medication management, prophylactic treatments, nutritional counseling, treatment adherence counseling, and direct referrals to other Mazzoni Center supportive services as needed. HIV care is provided during all of our patient care hours and does not require a special appointment.

Specialty Services

Mazzoni Center has contracted with several other providers in Philadelphia to provide various specialty services at the Center. In addition to our family medicine, transgender, HIV/AIDS, and family planning services, we can also help patients in the following areas: Hepatitis Vaccination, Massage Therapy, and Nutritional Counseling.

Syphilis: What You Need To Know

     Syphilis is a disease transmitted through physical contact from person to person through oral, anal, and vaginal sex. While syphilis is easy to get, it is even easier to treat and cure with antibiotics.  Mazzoni Center offers FREE syphilis screening at our Health Center, Washington West Project, and on our Mobile Testing Unit. 

Transgender Services

Regardless of gender identity or gender expression, Mazzoni Center provides compassionate and non-judgmental medical care to Philadelphia’s wonderfully diverse transgender community. We are especially proud of our ability to provide this care and continually seek feedback from the community.

Walgreens On-Site Pharmacy

Walgreens Pharmacy at Mazzoni Center is a full-service pharmacy, with a special expertise in HIV/AIDS. They have knowledgeable pharmacists who understand your needs, and are ready to become a critical partner in your healthcare team. They are uniquely trained in the latest HIV/AIDS therapies, and are available for one-on-one medication consultations.

Women's Health Initiative

Mazzoni Center understands that all women, especially lesbians and bisexual women, face many barriers to health care. Our goal is to address the specific health and mental health needs of Philadelphia's lesbian and bisexual communities, and create a welcoming environment for all women to receive quality health care.

Youth Drop-In Hours

Wednesdays from 5 to 7 pm Mazzoni Center offers youth drop-in hours at our Family and Community Medicine practice at 809 Locust Street.
