Mazzoni Center is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (IBC) to support Mazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine (MCFCM) practice.
Mazzoni Center Executive Director Nurit L. Shein said the funds will be used to help MCFCM to continue to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services focusing on the needs of uninsured and underinsured lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals in the greater Philadelphia area. “We are extremely grateful for the support of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, which will have a direct impact on our ability to see more patients every week, by expanding our clinical capacity,” Shein said.
She added: “The funding provided by the Blue Safety Net Program is critical to our ability to provide quality primary health care to those members of our communities who have the greatest needs, regardless of their ability to pay.”
The clinical team at MCFCM provided care to nearly 4,500 unduplicated patients in 2011, more than 60 percent of whom were uninsured or underinsured.
“The IBC Foundation is focusing the investment of our resources not only on transforming healthcare through innovation in our region, but also on improving the health and wellness of our community,” stated Lorina Marshall-Blake, president of the IBC Foundation. “We are honored to partner with the Mazzoni Center to help them add capacity that will go directly toward improving the health and wellness of their patients and the overall community.”
