Featured Donor of the month: Susan Edwards
Susan Edwards has a history of giving to the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities, both of her time and her resources.
As a past donor and volunteer with MANNA she prepared meals to be delivered to clients of their food program. These days the Narberth, PA, resident is also a supporter of Mazzoni Center, and helps to raise additional dollars with every donation through the charitable giving program at Pew Charitable Trusts, where she has been employed for 12 years. Through her workplace match program, Susan’s generous $600 annual gift is matched at 200%, so she effectively raises $1,800 to support our agency every year.
According to Susan, she chose Mazzoni Center in part because of her desire “to support organizations with a proven record of excellence, and demonstrated fiscal responsibility.” She applies the same criteria to other charitable organizations with which she is involved, including Women’s Lunch Place, an agency that serves homeless women and children in Boston.
Another compelling tie for Susan to our agency is her son John Edwards, Program Manager of the REACH program, which provides peer counseling for individuals dealing with substance abuse and related health issues. “I’m very proud of the work John and his colleagues do at Mazzoni Center, so naturally I try to support it in whatever way I can,” she says.
In these challenging economic times, we are especially grateful to Susan Edwards and all those whose contributions help us provide healthcare and wellness services to the LGBT communities and others here in Philadelphia.
